Right before the 4th of July holiday, Senate Republicans attempted to take their dangerous healthcare bill to a vote so they could skip town for the weekend. But they couldn’t make it happen – because you fought back.
Here in King County, Dow and his team signed up nearly 200,000 people for affordable healthcare under the ACA. Last week, Dow asked you to share your stories about how Trumpcare will affect your family. Here’s what you said:
“I am going on Medicare in two months. By all appearances, my healthcare costs will be higher, and my coverage lower if Trumpcare is adopted. This is not how I planned to spend my retirement.”
“My adult daughter was dealing with a very persistent health issue that caused her to become diabetic, and Medicaid was essential in helping her to maintain her health and overcome these life threatening challenges. If it had not been for Medicaid, my daughter’s health expenses would also have been disastrous to my financial situation.”
“If this bill passes, my family will be devastated. I have a brother and sister that are disabled and they depend on their Medicaid. My brother is on dialysis 3 times a week. I have grandchildren that depend on Medicaid as well. If this bill passes I’m sure there will be many other families just like mine that will suffer. I’m sure people will even die. This bill is heartless and does not help the American people. All I can say is if this bill passes, what has our country come to?”
“My brother, who is homeless with a disease and heroin addiction, needs the ACA and without it will die on the streets.”
“I am a healthcare worker who hears the stories of patients everyday who will be impacted by any cuts to healthcare. It’s heartbreaking!”
“When Obamacare became reality, I was able to return to school (I am now working on my Masters) without the fear that my husband would have no health care access. His was saved when Obamacare covered a gall bladder removal.”
Thank you to everyone who shared your stories. We heard you, along with the thousands of other residents who shared their stories. And we stand with you.
The Trump administration’s attack isn’t over, so our fight goes on. We know Senate Republicans will be back with their disastrous bill, taking another shot at middle-class families, looking to strip away critical care services for 22 million Americans – and 200,000 residents right here in King County.
Dow is doing everything in his power to make sure King County residents get and keep the care they need – but he needs your help, now more than ever.
